Paris is one of the premier capitals of the world especially the romantic amongst us; it is also one of the best European city destinations. Renowned for its modern art and breathtaking scenery a short stay in Paris is the ideal location for a romantic weekend break; most people promise to return as so much they wanted to see will have been missed.
This city is also equally well known for its gothic architecture and markets; the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe and the Louvre must not go unmentioned. Traveling through the city of Paris can be very enjoyable; the Metro underground system is easy to understand, efficient and reaches everywhere even the most enthusiastic tourist would want to visit.
The Eiffel Tower at over 300 meters tall is a magnificent steel structure; it can be seen throughout most locations around the city. In the evening the illumination means it can be seen for many miles; it is possible to take organized tours which tell the story of the Tower and the history of France.
The famous Paris Avenue ‘the Champs Elysees’ must also receive a visit; if you want to see famous, designer label shops and the restaurants, this is the place. This is an ‘up-market’ area that attracts thousands of tourists each day; most of the five star hotels are located here but more affordable hotels can be found further out.
If you are an art lover you will enjoy the Louvre, a truly amazing museum; it houses over three hundred thousand exhibits but not all of them are ever on display at the same time. On a Paris short stay vacation it would be easy to spend entire weekend here; unfortunately it has so many visitors each year that some people are unable to see their favorite works. Paris has attracted world famous artists for hundreds of years; many of whom left large collections of their paintings here like Monet and Picasso.
The famous 19th century edifice built on Napoleons instructions, the Arc de Triomphe, is also in Paris; the names of his generals engraved upon it to honor them and his troops. Many people do not know that an observatory was included in the design which affords great views of the surrounding area; it is located in Place Charles de Gaulle where twelve of the city’s main avenues start, including Avenue de Champs Elysees.
This city has a huge variety of places to visit, many of these have not even mentioned here; and whilst there are many more worthy examples, those listed here should not be missed. A short stay in Paris will definitely be a busy one even if only a few sights are visited; you would probably need a week to view the main galleries, visit medieval castles and explore fabulous Gothic churches.
